Unit 2240 Silverstone Technology Park Silverstone Circuit, Silverstone Northants NN12 8GX Tel/Fax: 01327 855444 Contact: Graham Orchard CIK News The President of the CIK, Yvon Leon, has resigned and Vincent Caro has been appointed acting president. At the Meeting just held the FIA World Council has "Approved the principle of introducing a long life 125cc two-stroke engine as well as a series of other technical and sporting measures to reduce costs at international championships". Regulations are due to be presented at the December World Council meeting. MSA Regulations for 2005 Chain and sprocket protection. Chains and sprockets will be required to be better protected and to be covered at least down to the bottom of the axle. This coverage must not allow fingers to have access to the drive and it will also recommend clutches to be fitted with a metal protective cover. Access for starter is permitted. This takes effect 1.1.2005. It is permitted to modify off the shelf items to enable best fit but the finger access requirement must be respected.
Steering Locks The fitment of a steering lock will not be permitted when karts are being driven. This is to prevent locks used for steering alignment accidentally engaging while the kart is racing. With effect 1.1.2005.
JICA Age Competitors will be allowed from their 12th birthday provided they have held a Nat A licence for at least 12 months. This was considered appropriate action to see if the JICA class entry levels (as the premier MSA British junior championship class) could be stimulated. There has been discussion regarding other junior classes ages and these are being referred to the first Kart Committee meeting in 2005. Kart Suits Older CIK suits homologated before 1997 (with markings CIK101 and CIK151) will no longer be eligible from 1.1.2005. Seats A metal or nylon reinforcement at the upper anchorage points, minimum 1.5mm thick and minimum 20 sq cms area must be incorporated. Transponders These must be located on the rear of the seat, at a height of 25cm +/- 5cms; the previous side pod position will no longer be acceptable. ABkC News At the Steering Group/Kart Regional Committee meeting held on 23rd September a number of important issues were dealt with and are summarized in the November issue of the ABkC newsletter see www.abkc.org.uk . TKM changes Junior Intermediates will have a weight increase of 4kg and the restrictor bore increased by 1mm to 21.5mm. Tyre Treatment Tests A means of testing for illegal treatments has been demonstrated to the MSA who will now carry out an evaluation programme so that this can be introduced and meet judicial requirements. The initial demonstration was convincing enough to show that claims of such practices being undetectable as false. The equipment is not cheap but if it cuts out blatant cheating then it has to be something we can all support. Floor Tray/Chassis Bolts Concern has been expressed regarding bolts protruding on the underside of the chassis and which could cause injury in kart over kart type incidents. At worst protruding threads should be cut to the correct length and/or protected; even better would be to use domed nuts. Kart Race Yearbook The 2005 Yearbook has now gone to print. The MSA now makes available all Yearbook sections on its website www.msauk.org and 2004 versions should now be viewable. I will let you know when the 2005 editions will be on line.

The Karting Magazine Forums will again take place in the superb Ryton conference suite, with top speakers such as Alan Turney/ Grahame Butterworth, Chris Cowels, George Robinson and Malcolm Fell giving their opinions on relevant topics. The number of talks has been reduced this year to give more time for discussion and question answers. Amongst other things happening at the show will be the ABkC AGM, Saturday 2pm.
