The Administrator is still waiting for a response from the majority of members regarding a possible BKIA scheme for a preferential rate scheme for accepting payments by Credit and Debit cards. It would be really helpful to have as full a response as possible. Could those who have not replied complete the questions below and e-mail/fax your response back.

MSA Kart Committee Meeting

At the last meeting approval was given to the revised bodywork regulations submitted with a great amount of members input. These revisions essentially take account of current good practice and permit the use of CIK homologated parts on non-CIK chassis with minimal change. Once these have gone through Motor Sports Council we will be able to publish them subject to final ratification. An early implementation date has been requested.

Kart Race Yearbook

If members require a BKIA discounted price copy of the MSA 2005 Yearbooks please let the Administrator know together with payment of £12.50 (this includes postage).

CIK Regulations

The easiest way of getting sight and copy of the latest version is to log onto www.cikfia.com and follow the options through to Technical Regulations.

Formula TKM 4-stroke Rule Clarifications

2005 Regulations, Rule 46 Cooling

Please note that radiators as supplied from Tal-Ko may have the top mounting brackets either welded or riveted in place. This is due to a change in manufacturing method. Both are acceptable.

In addition it is permitted to carry out external repairs including welding/brazing to the radiator and its brackets to repair damage. It is not permitted to replace the radiator core. Effective Immediate.

TKM Chassis Dimensions

A rule clarification has been issued with ride heights for each make/model.

FORMULA ROTAX 125 MAX, JUNIOR UK and MINI MAX

Rotax has introduced a new ignition ON-OFF switch for all Rotax Max engines. Both switches are legal for all Rotax Max classes.

Rotax Max Con Rods

There have been an abnormally high number of con rod failures recently. Due to the unknown extent of the possible failure rate BRP-ROTAX recommend a recall of engines for con rod replacement.

Engine numbers affected: 8223982 to 8226247

JAG advise customers to contact their Service Centre or JAG to be advised on how to proceed. All affected engines will have con rods replaced, parts and labour free of charge.

JAG apologise for any inconvenience this issue may be causing and are working to rectify the problem with Rotax as soon as possible. If members have any issues regarding con rod replacement please contact them as soon as possible.

London Kart Show 2005

Following the success of the 2004 London Kart Show, the organisers have decided after conducting a straw poll to stage this years show over three days (9, 10, 11, December 2005). The show will open on Friday at 12 am and exhibitors will be able to build their stands either all day Thursday or Friday morning so their costs for accommodation etc will not be affected. Rates for exhibiting will not change and will remain at £55 a metre for open and £70 for shell scheme. 90% of the exhibition is already sold or reserved.

If you would like more information or want to book a stand please call Philip Bunn on 01444 246446.

Kart Industry Forum

One of the suggestions put to the AGM was for the BKIA to host a forum looking at the future direction that we as an industry believe karting in the UK should take. Clearly this takes the BKIA into an area that we have previously not been directly involved but with the growth of one-make classes in the past few years and the new 125 TaG CIK proposals on the table this would be a good time to look at the whole subject.

ABkC News

MSA Technical Commissioners now have the use of digital burettes to carry out CIK head volume method using that device. While CIK regulations allow for these to be used, the digital and glass burettes will be used side by side for UK class measurements to enable stability comparisons to be made. If member engine preparers have any views or experiences please let me know. Both Paul Klaassen and Gordon Hill will welcome knowledgeable assistance during this evaluation period.

Scrutineers have been checking bodywork and front fairing max ground clearance - 40mm if MSA bodywork, 60mm if new CIK. This is catching out a few manufacturers and of course competitors.

ABkC is asking for feedback from the trade on the proposed new bodywork draft regulations and also for opinions on when / how 100 National should adopt reed valve engines. Earliest could be 2006, would that be acceptable? Also there are apparently two sizes of reed block, should only the older smaller size be permitted (but apparently most reeds are now modified for the larger block). Some say spares are hard to get for some of the rotary valve engines.

Feedback to the Administrator please.
